The walk is Free to the public and will be led by our own experienced birders, Rob and Robin who last year identified over 35 different birds. Wear warm clothes and stout boots and bring binoculars if you have them. Please note that this is a walk in the natural environment and will include muddy and/or uneven ground and steep slopes. Make sure you wear stout footwear suitable for walking outdoors over uneven surfaces and a sunhat and suncream if the weather is hot. If you have a pair of binoculars then bring them -you never know what you might spot! 10 till 1, meet outside the leisure centre.
Balsam Bashing

Saturday 2nd June Himalayan Balsam is a pretty but very invasive plant that the conservation group is trying to remove from the reserve by pulling it up, so that our native plants can recolonize. Come and help us in our efforts. Balsam is very easy to pull and it's a very satisfying task that's suitable for all the family!
Make sure you wear stout footwear suitable for walking outdoors over uneven surfaces. It's also advisable to wear long sleeves and gardening gloves if you have them. If the weather is hot then do wear a sunhat and suncream and bring a bottle of water.

On Saturday 27th June we will have an extra event. Paul Humphreys will lead a Tools Training day when we will learn how to look after all the shiny tools we have – so things like oiling, sharpening and storage. A number of people have already registered their interest for this but anyone is welcome to come along. Meet at the tool store (the freight container behind the leisure centre) at 10.00 am on the 27th.

To tie with the Bradley Stoke Festival on the same day we will be putting on a Community walk which we hope will be a fascinating insight into the plants and animals on your local reserve. Led by ecologist Rupert Higgins this walk is intended to involve the wider community, especially those who might not have realised just how much they have on the doorstep so everyone is even more welcome than usual. Our annual Dawn Chorus walk is one for the early birds in every sense. A professional ecologist will be leading the walk and judging by previous years it should be very interesting and should last for about two and a half hours. Meet at the Leisure Centre at 06:00am!

3BNCG Annual General Meeting

We will be planting wildflower seeds in the meadow area by Sherbourne’s Brake. We’ll clear patches of grass with spades, scatter the seeds and cover them loosely with topsoil. Spades and seeds will be available but it would be helpful if people could bring their own garden trowels and hand forks to help break up the soil patches. Feel free to bring any suitable seeds you may have too. We probably won't have enough seeds to do this all day so we also intend to do some litter picking around the area to tie in with a national “spring clean” event. Meet at the entrance near where Bailey's Court Road meets Brook Way at 10am.

In time honoured tradition the group will be burning up the extra calories taken on over Christmas by laying a hedge using traditional hedgelaying techniques - and probably a few we'll make up as we go along. We'll be working on a stretch of the hedge that runs next to Bradley Stoke Way. On both days meet at 10am by the entrance into the reserve on Bradley Stoke Way opposite Tesco's Extra, (that’s the entrance with the path down to the Ellicks Close bridge).

General Group Meeting 11 October 2006
A General Meeting of the group, was held on Wednesday 11th October, 7.30 pm at the Brook Way ActivityCentre (just off Brook Way and adjacent to the doctors' surgery- there is a car park). All were welcome.
15 people braved an early start and assembled somewhat bleary-eyed at 6 am for a dawn chorus walk, led by Ed Drewitt from the Bristol City Museum. Ed - who was unnaturally bouncy for this early in the day - helped us to identify 18 species. Click here for further details.

Traditional Wooden Gate

We made a traditional woodengate and post and rail fence, to go around the lower pond near the seatingarea, using trees felled in the plantation woodland from the managementwork we have been doing. It was a chance to try out some green woodwork (and digging)skills.

We decided to do BrambleBashing in the northernmost tip of the reserve up by Primrose Bridge, wherewe hadn't been before. A special note; Paul couldn't make it for this workday andone of his colleagues, Becci, attended in his place. However,she (and the BTCV tools) were only there until 2pm.
